My first illustration of 2024 was for Jehane’s Golden Thread, a weekly prompt/colourscheme challenge.
The first prompt was “Japanese Cranes” and I was inspired by a memory of a book of decorative Japanese papers I used to spend ages staring at as a child..!
I used the colourscheme suggested (but added gold!) and thought about spring, and how things can be in flux while retaining a certain stillness at their core.
